2010-04-07 St Jospehs 2...Celtic 5..Good win for last game of the season

Celtic travelled to kilmuckridge to play Josephs in a game they were eager to win to end the season on a high. Celtic settled fast with Rosie finding the net after 10 minutes and again 10 minutes after this. Josephs were awarded a free in front of the goal that saw them get their mark on the score sheet. Feeling the pressure, celtic concentrated on their passes and mid-field worked hard to keep the ball in Josephs half. Joanne Murphy took a long distance shot that hit the back of the net and kept the pressure on. Josephs were awarded another free in front of the goal that brought the half time score to 2-3 in favour of celtic. The start of the second half saw celtic dominating from the start and showed Josephs not getting a look in for the second half, Marcella cullen scored twice more for Celtic and for the last ten minutes of the game it was purely Celtic taking shot after shot. Full time score was 2-5 to celtic, a good win for the girls in the last game of the season. This was celtics first year in Division 1 and are currently sitting 3rd in the table. An excellent year and end result for the ladies and can now concentrate on the new season ahead......WELL DONE TO THE GIRLS AND ROBBIE

2010-04-07 new ross cormacs 1..cormacs win on penalties after extra time

Celtic saw the end of their cup run when cormacs bet them on penalties. Robbie had his full squad back in action against Cormacs for this cup tie. Both teams were eager for the win in what proved to be an exciting, fast paced and hard fought game by both sides. Both teams were in good form right from the offset and battled hard for every ball, an early goal from a corner saw Cormacs take the lead in this match, Celtic didnt let their heads drop and continued on the attack with a couple of shots on target but the defence on both sides saw shots few and far between. Half time saw some changes to the team when an injured Denise Malone came off and was replaced by Marcella Cullen. The second half was like a new game for Celtic when they dominated for most of the half and cormacs showed signs of tiredness and gave celtic more chances but none reaching the back of the net, half way through the second half rosie scored the equaliser and celtic moved up an extra gear to keep on the attack for the remainder. Game moved to extra time with celtic still looking for that winning goal, a bad tackle saw anna power having to come off and be replaced by Leonie Kennedy. No team was able to score and the game went to penalties where cormacs had the winner. A dissappointing resulting for Celtic after a long and tough match. Players and manager wish Anna Power a speedy recovery from her ankle injury which has ended the season early for her :(

2010-03-08 Celtic 3.....Tomrack 1 Winning form continues for Celtic

Celtic picked up another all important 3 points when they took on Tombrack at home on Sunday. Not much to say about this Celtic dominated the game and were never really under any pressure for this game. Both teams at times did display excellent football and all in all was a good game but Tombrack were just not strong enough for Celtic. With just 2 games left in the league, Celtic want to continue on this form and end the season well....

2010-03-08 Duncannon 0...Celtic 1...Boost for Celtic

Celtic travelled to take on Duncannon in this local derby.Manager Robbie Bennett was left with some decisions to make as he is still down a number of players from injuries. Celtic needed to take 3 points from this game to move up the table and to get them back on winning form for the remainder of their games. Both teams got off to a slow start and were struggling to get moving and get a flow going to the game. Celtic scored first and started to settle from here on and dominated for the first half. The second half saw Duncannon show that they werent giving up and started to put pressure on Celtic, but Celtics defense proved to strong from the home side and they didnt get a chance to get the equaliser. Full time result saw Celtic come away with all 3 points. Well done ladies........... Best wishes to Denise Malone (yep me) who broke her wrist and fractured her arm in this game, and no it wasnt a dive, like some people are saying haha

2010-03-08 Ross Celtic 1...St Josephs 1 .. points lost in last 3 minutes

Celtic hosted St josehps {arch Rivals from last season }for the first meeting in this years league. Celtic needed to take some points from this game to hold their place mid-table. Ruth Jones found the net first for Celtic to give them that all important 1-nil advantage at half time and kept their spirits up. The second half showed Celtic dominating the game and a few chances were missed to give them a bigger lead. In the last ten minutes of the game Celtic dropped and let Josephs start to come through from their half, joeys managed to score the equaliser 3 minutes from the final whistle to end the game 1 all and a share of points for both sides.

2010-03-08 Wex Cup 2nd Round Glen Celtic 1..Ross Celtic 1 ( glen won 3-2 on penalties)

Both teams started strong and fought hard for every ball, New Ross knew they had to be ready from the beginning against this side if they wanted a good game. Rosie Bennett was first to find the net for New Ross to give them a 1-0 advantage at half time. The second half saw some great soccer been played by both teams and excellent passing and ball control in action. An incident halfway through the second half saw both teams down to 10 players. Glen Celtic equalised after this incident which forced the game to extra time, no scores during extra time saw the game being forced to penalties were New Ross were just pipped. New Ross bow out of the cup at this stage but should be pround of themselves and the good display of soccer they showed

2010-03-08 Wex Cup First Round Shelbourne 1...Celtic 10

First round of the cup saw Celtic travel to the grounds of local team Shelbourne for this fixture. Shelbourne were the first to score which gave Celtic the kick they needed to get into gear!! After this goal, Celtic answered with their first goal and from here dominated the remainder of the game. All of celtics remaining goals went unanswered and full time saw Celtic easily go through to the second round of the cup

2009-11-20 Celtic 1..Killenagh 2 Celtic lose out on important points

Celtic Ladies will have to be happy with sharing the top of the table with Killenagh after this recent defeat at home by Killenagh. Both team knew this was an important game and both sides wanting the win. The last time Celtic played Killenagh, 3 of their players had to be took off due to injuries as a result of tackles and early into this game history started repeating itself, when Lorraine Quinn had to be helped from the pitch after a hard tackle (anybody noticing a trend here). This game was a hard fought, physical game by both sides, where some great soccer was displayed and no team lagging back. Killenagh were first to score when a shot dropped just below the crossbar giving them a half time lead of 1 nil. In the second half, Celtic came out all guns blazing and gave Killenagh a shock when Mary Quinn scored the equaliser minutes into the half, from here Celtic pushed forward and dominated most of the second half and missed a couple of scoring chances. Simona Gedlvilaute was brought down in the square by a disgraceful and dangerous tackle but the ref (Johnny O Conner) refused to allow them the penalty and gave us an indirect free kick outside the square. 3 minutes to the end Killenagh managed to score a second goal to give them the lead. Celtic undeterred quickly took their kick off to try and find a late equaliser, a foul on Denise Malone saw Celtic with the opportunity to try and set up some play, Jenny Delaney took the shot and suprised everybody espically the Killenagh defence when it landed in the back of the net.......The ref then blew the whistle and disallowed the goal, and against protests of the team and manager, told Celtic to take it again for no good reason, when Jenny took it the second time, the game was blew up for F/T straight away as soon as the ball was kicked. Celtic had to amke do with no points after this game and are very bitter with the fact they felt cheated out of a draw game. Celtic are playing at home again this Sunday against Bunclody and must look for a win to stay top of the table...Good luck girls

2009-11-02 New Ross Celtic 2..Duncannon 0...Bad weather dosent deter Celtic Ladies....

Celtic Ladies took on local team Duncannon on Sunday in a match that they knew they needed a win to remain at the top of the table. With injuries and sickness still causing problems for Robbie he was forced to start a new line out from the team that has been successful in recent matches. The start of this match proved to be very sloppy with both teams finding it hard to settle and get some good soccer going with the conditions underfoot been extremely soft and slippy. Celtic were first to calm down and start on the attack with some early chances missed. A short pass in from Joanne Murphy set Marcella Cullen up nicely for the first goal of the game, and from here Celtic didnt look back. Quickly after this goal Marcella scored her second for the day to give the home side a lead at half time of 2-Nil. The second half of the game was completely domionated by Celtic with the ball not going past the centerfield line for the entire half, Duncannon felt the pressure and moved their entire team into defence and nobody up front in attack for them, which meant the home defence had no problem clearing any breaking ball that came that direction. Celtic missed numerous chances of goals in the second half and from the sideline it looked liked it was just target practice for stages of the seconfd half.Robbie made changes at this stage to see if fresh legs could get around the defence, Denise O Leary was brought on to replace Mary Quinn and Joanne Murphy was replaced by Janet Browne, both Subs playing a great game when they came on, Duncannon however did not give up at any stage of the game and held their defence not allowing Celtic to add to their tally and the full time score remained at 2-Nil. Celtic remain in top form at this stage and hope to continue with this form for upcoming games. Well done girls!!!!!

2009-10-19 Killenagh 0....New Ross Celtic 4..Fantastic win for Celtic Ladies

Celtic Ladies continue on their winning form when made the trip to Gorey to take on Killenagh Wanders, a team that they knew very little about. Celtic knew they were yet again the underdogs for this game as they have been for the season so far but managed to cause upset by beating the homeside 4 nil. The game that was filled with goals but sadly a number of injuries aswell, got off to a shaky start with Celtic trying to get used to the very small and narrow pitch in killenagh, whilst trying to hold off attacks from the confident homeside. Celtic settled after the first fifteen minutes and started their own attacks which resulted in Rosie Bennett scoring the first for the Celtic side. This opening goal gave Celtic the boost they needed to keep the home team at bay and breakdown their play in midfield. A fowl outside the box saw Marcella Cullen step up to take the free, which hit the top cornor and landed at the back of the net. Within minutes Celtic were on the attack again and a slip up by the Killenagh keeper, saw Rosie Bennett hitting the back of the net when she acted quickly on the keepers mistake. It was at this point that some problems started to appear for Celtic. Ten minutes to half time saw Jenny Delaney having to be carried from the pitch and forcing Robbie "the Boss" Bennett having to make some quick swaps and moves in the backline to replace the injured sweeper, Lorraine Quinn fell into sweeper position and Leonie Kennedy came on as the substitute. Half time saw Celtic 3 nil ahead but knew that Killenagh were going to be harder for the second half. The second half was 50/50 with both teams fighting but no team dominating. 20 minutes into the second half a challenge saw Denise Malone having to leave the pitch with a leg injury, she was substituted by Joanne Murphy ( Only back from recent injury problems) and more position swaps to be made by Robbie. A fowl on Marcella Cullen saw her once again step up to take the free and getting it past the keeper to make it 4 nil. Celtic quickly launch another attack after this goal when disaster struck again, Rosie was on the attack looking for another hat trick when an akward tackle on her, resulted in Rosie also having to be carried from the pitch, Janet Browne came on to fill the space. Denise O'Leary was also brought on at this stage up front. Killenagh put a lot of pressure on the Celtic defence in the last 10 minutes and didnt give up for one minute but the defence held together and kept strong and didnt let anything through. Full time score Killenagh 0 Celtic 4...3 more vital points but also a game that has left Robbie with some injury worries....

2009-10-15 New Ross Celtic 2..Coolgreany 0..Celtic continue winning form

Celtic continued their recent winning form when the bet Coolgreany 2-nil at home last Sunday, to secure another 3 points that throws them back into contention for the title race. Both teams were slow at the start with bad conditions leading to a slippy pitch, but when they settled both teams fought hard to try and score the first goal. A fowl outside the box saw Jenny Delaney come up from defence to try and lob the ball in to make a scoring chance, but Jenny found the back of the net herself to give Celtic the lead and a boost. The second half saw no change with both teams battling hard and nobody wanting to leave anything go. Celtic did miss a couple of opportunities in the second half with a number of balls been put wide, until Rosie Bennett does what Rosie does best and put a rocket of a shot past the goalie to make it 2 nil to Celtic. Coolgreaney managed to find another gear and brought all players forward to try and break through the strong Celtic defence that were on form all day. Coolgreaney did manage to get a few shots on target but Brid O Leary who was playing in goal for the first time this season, made no mistakes in showing them that she was letting nothing past her line and made some great saves for Celtic. Full Time gave Celtic another 3 points and hopefully they can continue on this winning streak for next week.

2009-10-15 Tombrack Utd 3...New Ross Celtic 4...Ladies find their feet in new division

Ross celtic travelled to Ferns to take on Tombrack in a game that they knew they had to earn 3 points to get their confidence up. Celtic powered ahead from the first whistle and quickly dominated the first half and showed Tombrack that they were by no means a pushover. Marcella Cullen chalked up the first score with a lovely goal flicked over the head of the keeper. The first goal was exactly the tonic celtic needed and were unstoppable for the first half. Rosie Bennett quickly added 2 more goals to the scoreline, whilst Tombrack could not break through the excellent defence for a shot on goal. Jenny Delaney took good control of the defence and was back to her sweeper position for the first time this season after a recent injury. The second half brought along a new game, Tombrack were back fighting and kept their heads up and pushed Celtic for every ball. Rosie Bennett added to the scoreline and managed a hat trick for herself on the day, after this goal Celtic appeared to fade, and Tombrack put them under serious pressure for the second half when they scored 3 quick goals in succession. For the last ten minutes, Celtic copped on and arrived back in the game and started to put the pressure back to Tombrack and kept on the attack for the remaining minutes....Full time win for Celtic, to get them on the right path for this season

2009-09-21 New Ross Celtic 1 Bunclody AFC 3..Defeat for Celtic in First game

New Ross travelled to Bunclody for their first game since been promoted to Div 1. Both teams settled well and got off to a good start in this game, where both teams fought hard. Bunclody were first to score with a questionable offside goal before the break. At the start of the second half Rosie Bennett quickly brought the two teams level with a great strike, and left bothteams again fighting for victory. midway through the second half Celtic conceded a penalty that Bunclody made sure found the back of the neck and saw Celtics heads drop. Bunclody managed 1 more goal before the final whistle walking with a 3-1 victory. Celtic fought hard in this match on the pitch and didnt leave Bunclody away with anything and made them fight for the entire 90 minutes. As this was Celtics first match in Div 1 both manager and trainer said they were delighted with the display and hard work the girls put in

2009-07-23 Boland Cup Final..New Ross Celtic 4 Fort Celtic 3 on Penalties (1-1 after extra time)

Ross Celtic travelled to Rosslare to play Fort Celtic in this years final of the "Boland Cup". After a comfortable win against slaney in the semis on home ground, Ross travelled to the game on a winning streak. The final been played before this also went to penalties and moved the game back by an hour, both teams were getting restless as it was one of the warmest Sundays of the year so far. When the game eventually started both teams took awhile to settle but Celtic started to show signs of dominating the game early on. Brid O Leary was first to find the back of the net giving Ross a 1 nil advantage at half time. At the start of the secong hald Fort came back out with a second wind and Ross eased off their game and looked unsettled again for awhile. A free in front of the box saw Fort draw with Ross and both teams battling again hard for the title. Ross moved up a gear again and started to play they way they have of games lately but just could not find the back of the net despite numerous chances. Full time both teams still drew and it went to extra time, Ross started to dominate again during extra time but were unlucky with their shots. The second half of extra time proved a very exciting half as neither team was going down without a fight, forcing the match to penalties. Janet Browne took the spot on the goal line as her team mates watched on, if she was under pressure it didnt show as she made a magnificant save on the second penalty giving Ross the advantage for the game. Fort missed their final penalty on the day, leaving Ross champions for 2008/2009 and brought the cup to New Ross in a large convoy of red and white. Both team played a great game on the day and showed magnificant drive, fight and determination on the day. It was a very exciting, nail biting game that was thoroughly enjoyed be the large turnout of supporters that showed up for both teams. WELL DONE CELTIC LADIES...A WU WU

2009-04-01 CONGRADULATIONS.......New Ross Celtic Ladies

It was confirmed today that the New Ross Celtic Ladies team have been promoted to Division 1 for the 2009/2010 season...... WELL DONE GIRLS

2009-03-30 New Ross Celtic 1 Wex Celtic 0...Win brings ladies closer to league title

Celtic hosted to Wexford Celtic yesterday morning in what promised to be a tough game, Wexford Celtic are known to put up a good fight and play out a good game. The game started off poorly with New Ross Celtic taking time to settle and find their feet. Injuries with the team forced Robbie Bennett to make some starting changes. When Ross settled they started to dominate the game and kept the ball in Wexfords half for most of the game. The defence were only called upon a few times, when Wex did break away through mid-field, but the defence was just to strong for them and Wexford took no shots on goal. New Ross had any number of chances on goal but just couldnt register a goal between saves, wides and the cross bar. Rosie Bennett managed to register a score in the first half to give New Ross the lift they wanted and showed them settling down and playing to their usual form. The second half started with New Ross dominating again and Wexford just couldnt get past the backline with defence, again the goals were just not going in for the ladies despite the number of shots on goal. "Tissy St. Ledger" was forced off with an injury and replaced by Mary Quinn. Denise Malone came off and replaced by Joanne Murphy who after 10 minutes took a nasty tackle which resulted in her been carried from the pitch. "Fiz" Lyons replaced Joanne and played a strong game for the remainder. This win has pushed Celtic closer to the league title and a lot will count when New Ross take on St.Josephs next week who they are currently sharing the top position with.

2009-03-30 Celtic 1 Forth Celtic 0...Ladies will have to await Board decision

Celtic travelled to play Forth Celtic in Wexford and took the lead when captain "jenny Delaney", found the back of the net through a free in the first half. However 9 minutes into the second half a serious injury to a Forth player forced the referee to abandon the game. Celtic at this stage are awaiting to find out if the 3 points will be awarded to them or if the match will have to be replayed. The Celtic panel and management wish Tina a speedy recover and hope she is doing well.

2009-03-19 New Ross Celtic 5 Slaney Rovers 1..All important win for Celtic

Last weekend saw Celtic take on Slaney Rovers who are just behind them in the table and also fighting for the league title. This match saw the welcome return of Celtics captain "Jenny Delaney" who has been missing from the last few games due to an ankle injury received earlier in the season. Robbie kept the previous weeks line out which saw Rosie Bennett outfield and Janet Browne in goal.Celtic knew from the offset that this was not going to be an easy match but also a match that needed to be won to remain in contention. Both teams got off to a great start with no early domination showing through by any team.An early goal from a long center field cross to Marcella Cullen gave Celtic exactly the lift they wanted. This was followed quickly by Rosie Bennett steaming through the defence and making sure that her shot was going nowhere only passed the keeper to the back of the net. These 2 quick goals saw Slaney fall back and gave Celtic the chance to prove what they are made of and started to dominate the game. Another goal from Marcella Cullen saw Celtic with a 3 nil advantage at half time. The second half started off well again for the home team who were playing like it was the start of the of a new game and that they had a point to prove. Changes on the field saw Brid O Leary, Leonie Kennedy, "Fiz" lyons and "Tissy" St.Ledger (back from injury) come on for Celtic and again made no mistakes and strengthed the attack . Brid O Leary made her mark by ensuring she scored Celtics 5th goal of the game. Slaney did register a goal from a penalty near the end of the second half but any other shots on target were dealt with effectively by Janet Browne who had a graet game in goal and made a couple of important saves. The defence stayed strong throughout the game and the team worked as a complete unit which just proved to strong for Slaney on the day. Another all important 3 points for celtic who are just behind St.Jospehs now and with only 3 games left in the season these are the important games and points that Celtic need to be winning. A marvellous display of soccer and spirit by the Celtic ladies who will need to keep this form for the remaining games....Well Done girls!!

2009-03-19 New Ross Celtic 7 Corach Ramblers 0..Celtic ladies much to strong for Ramblers

A recent home game showed Celtic back on winning form and the fighting spirit out on top. A spate of injuries and sickness showed a change in the Celtic lineout, with Rosie Bennett palying out field and Janet Browne taking up the position of goalie. Injuries forced "Tissy" St.Ledger and Carrie Maccraken to stay benched and new center field starters of Mary Quinn and Simona Gedvilaite taking up these positions. The new line up didnt make any differance as the girls got straight into the game from the first kick off and tore through Corachs defense. Celtics forward line made no mistakes with goals coming from Rosie Bennett and Marcella Cullen. The half time whistle showed a scoreline of a 5 nil advantage to Celtic. At the start of the second half Celtic showed no signs of easing off the pressure and kept the ball in Corachs half for almost all of the game. Any ball that came through mid-field was quickly dealt with by the defence who were giving Corach no chance of scoring anything. Robbie Bennett used his subs who all came on and gave outstanding performances and sealed the deal with 2 more goals from Semona Gedvilaite and "Fiz" Lyons. A much deserved win for Celtic that earns them 3 more points and keeping the pressure on current leaders St.Josephs for the league title.

2009-03-19 New Ross Celtic 3 Shelbourne 2...Close call for Celtic girls

An away match to Shelbourne showed Celtic still rocky after their recent win. Celtic didnt appear to settle at all in this game and looked like a poor team playing what an observer would think should have been an easy win. In the first half Celtic missed any amount of chances and saw the team fall apart in play. Celtic eventually managed their first goal which came from a long pass from centerfield and reached the toe of Janet Browne who made sure to hit the back of the net. This goal was closely followed by a screamer of a goal from Marcella Cullen. This wasnt enough for Celtic to get them to settle and still appeared unsure for the remainder of the first half. The second half showed an inprovement in the Celtic girls and they started to play the soccer they are used to, but heads dropped again when Shelbourne scored 2 quick goals in succession through a penalty and an OG. A second goal from Marcella Cullen put Celtic back in the lead again and they made sure it stayed that way , as the final score remianed at 3-2. Cetic needed the 3 points from this win to remain hopeful at a chance of being league winners and promotion from Division 2, but the poor performance and lack of spirit meant they were lucky to scrape by here.

2009-03-19 New Ross Celtic 1 Rosslare Rangers 0 Hard fought for win at start of 2009

Celtic hosted to Rosslare Rangers after a long break from league matches with Christmas and the Wexford Cup. The break showed on both sides with neither team settling down quickly which resulted in a disappointing first half for both teams with no score registered and keeping the pressure on for the second half. The start of the second half showed a hugh improvement in both sides and an early goal from Janet Broowne gave Celtic the lift the needed and raised their game an extra gear. Rangers kept their fight up and didnt give any easy chances to Celtic in the second half. A few missed chances by Celtic and some great defending by both sides kept the score at 1-nil at the full time whistle. Another 3 points for Celtic which they had to fight hard for and hopefully lifted the girls back to their normal form

2009-01-12 New Ross Celtic 3... Arklow 2.. Great start to 2009 for Celtic ladies

New Ross hosted Arklow yesterday in the first round of the Wexford ladies Cup , in what can only be described as disgusting weather conditions but also what has to be one of the best and most nail biting games of the 2008/2009 season so far for Celtic. The match got off to a shaky start with both teams trying to find their feet in the bad weather. A clearance by celtic defence carried back in on the wind, saw the ball blow in under the cross bar and gave Arklow the first score of the match, this lifted Arklow and they dominated for the next ten minutes of the match. A bad tackle saw Celtic lose their captain "Jenny Delaney", who was carried from the pitch and replaced by Leonie Kennedy. Towards the end of the first half Arklow scored their second goal which gave them a 2-nil advantage going into half time. The half time talk done the celtic ladies the world of good as they came back onto the pitch, with their heads and spirits raised and started what can only be described as complete domination and destruction of the Arklow team. A good start with the wind behind them saw celtic move up a gear and Rosie Bennet who started outfield for a change, score the first goal for celtic. This was closely followed by another goal from Marcella Cullen that saw the 2 teams even. Celtic dominated the remainder of the second half and had plenty of scoring chances but just couldnt make the target. Towards the end of the second half, Robbie moved Rosie back to goal and brought Janet Browne outfield. At the end of the second half the score was 2-2 which brought the match to extra time. The first half of extra time again saw Celtic dominate the play and Janet Browne was quick off the mark to score Celtics third goal. This was the only score of this half. The second half Arklow brought the fight back to their tream looking for an equaliser but just could'nt break through Celtic defence to get a shot on goal. The full time whistle saw Celtic claim victory 3-2 and through to the next round....Well done girls

2008-12-09 New Ross Celtic 0..Courtown Hibs 0..Disappointing Result for ladies

Ross celtic travelled to Courtown to take on Cortown Hibs who are currently bottom of the table. Cortown played a strong defence game where all players fell back to defend their goal. Celtic did have a few chances on goal but things just didnt go their way on the day and nothing reached the back of the net. Celtic were the stronger of the two teams with the game remaining on the Cortown side of the pitch for its entirity and Courtown not putting any pressure on Rossie Bennet in goal by means of attack. The game ended a nil all draw, it was just not celtics day and they bear the loss now of 2 points and will have to be happy with 1 point they received for the draw.

2008-12-09 New Ross Celtic 3...Wexford Celtic 1...Ladies back on winning form

After the last 2 dissapointing games, the ladies were back on their winning form when they met Wexford Celtic. An early goal by Marcella Cullen gave the Ross team the start they needed and they dominated the first half. A second goal gave Ross Celtic a 2-0 advantage at half time. Just after the start of the second half Wexford Celtic scored a goal to put them back in the game. Changes by Celtic made sure that defences were on top and Wexford were just not able to find away through. A third goal by Marcella Cullen esured Celtic of the victory and the 3 points for the game where the played on top form and fully deserved their win

2008-05-23 Etchingham Cup Final....New Ross Celtic Ladies 2 - Rosslare Rangers Ladies 1......Ross Celtic Ladies bring home another trophy to the club.....

The big match of the weekend saw New Ross Celtic and Rosslare Rangers clash in the Etchingham Cup final in All Blacks on Sunday. Both sides arrived in the decider on the back of some recent good league form, and an exciting match was always on the cards. Celtic started the stronger and went in front early in the game when Marcella Cullen was sharpest in a crowded penalty area. Rangers tried hard to get back on level terms but were struck with a lethal blow when Brid O'Leary made room for herself on the edge of the box and shot to the net, giving the keeper no chance. The Rosslare manager must have given his team a serious half-time talk because their second-half performance was much more vigorous and the pulled one back through prolific goalscorer Bobbi Doyle. They fought hard for the equaliser, but a combination of missed chances and some excellent New Ross defending kept them at bay and Celtic held on for their first piece of silverware. Jenny Delaney from New Ross Celtic collected a well-deserved player of the match award to spark off a day of celebration for her club.
