The sheer gap in class of these 2 sides really showed on the first game of the season in murntown as celtic put in the end what turned out to be 7 goals past the forth defence but it could have gone to double figures. After a long pre-season campaign with some mixed results and some hot and cold displays followed by alot of fitness work at training each member of the squad really was itching to earn a starting place in the celtic 11.The team that turned out was: aaron, stephen, johnny, matt, bryan, fee, drak, eggy, paul, mikey and drukie.subs were:back from retirement were kevin keilthy and john waters, diker, along with new additions james kehoe, james o shea and dylan murphy. Not keeping with the norm celtic turned up to a very decent surface at forth's complex which came as a big relief to all the players, but they could have turned off the electric fence around the playing surface with a number of players getting fried before kick off.Celtic really grabbed this game right from the off with pressure piled down on either side of the forth defence with some great work by fee, paul and drukie doing particularly well.Eggy was his usual self in the middle scrapping for anything and leaving drak get some time on the ball to get it moving the way celtic like to play. The first 3 goals celtic got all came from set pieces with mikey, john and eggy all on the scoresheet within the first 30 minutes. However forth got a rather fortuitous goal with 15 minutes left against the run of play.Aaron spilled a cross on his 6 yard box that came from the left but gathered it on the second attempt. However the ref who was 40 yards away deemed the ball to have crossed the line even though it was still 3 yards in play much to the dismay of all the celtic players and the 30 fans that made the trip down. However once he blows his whistle the decision cant be reversed but hopefully luck will even itself out by the end of the season.5 minutes before the break and again after some serious threats on goal by celtic fee cullen came across by the front post and flicked the ball with the outside of his foot into the bottom corner leaving the score at 1-4 at h/t but with celtic by far the superior team in this game.1 change had to be made during the break with aaron forced off with a long standing back injury and john waters making his re re re competive debut for celtic again beween the posts. The second half saw a more determined forth come out and put a bit of pressure on celtic which turned out good in the end scoring 3 goals in the half but it was still celtic who had the better of the chances. With 30 minutes left mikey was brought off for diker and 10 minutes later drukie made way for dylan.2 quick goals for forth either side of a mark lee goal saw the defecit reduced to 3-5.A hesitant celtic defence saw 2 similar goals fired past john.Soon after a sublime through ball from diker to dylan who cooly took it under control 30 yards out and finished low past the keeper brought it back to 6-3 before john waters took down a forth player in the box and they converted the penalty making it 4-6.However the talking point of the day was mark lee' last goal.A long high clearence from bryan originally saw mark nearly stumble over after he control the ball but as quick as he nearly fell he nutmegged the pressing forth right back and struck a shot first time from 35 yards which went in off the angle of the post and crossbar.A clear contender for celtics coveted prize "goal of the season".Forth stuck with tradition and never gave up til the final whistle but stephen, john, matt and bryan held firm and saw the game out.It was great to get 7 goals in the season opener away to forth which always proves to be 1 of the tougher ties each season but having conceded 4 things will have to get tighter at the back from now on if celtic are to continue the "drive for 5".Next weeks fixture sees a home ie for ross against ferns at 11 a.m

Spirits were high starting the season after a very promising pre-season winning almost all their games. The starting line up was Mark Lacey in goal, Martin O'Sullivan, Robbie Power, Billy Kehoe, and Gary O'Connor in defence. The midfield consisted of Jason Cashin, Philip O'Connor, Brian Lawlor, Stewart Power, and Craig O'Brien, with Ramon Fernandez as the lone striker. Things started well for Celtic and in the opening half against the wind were the better side as they played the ball around and tried to carve out openings. However there were no clear cut chances for either side and the score remained scoreless at half time. Celtic had the worst start to the second half when the Rovers attacker pounced on a mistake in the back line and got in to finish neatly under the diving Mark Lacey. From then on it was a case of Celtic trying to attack while Rovers were on the counter attack every chance they got. Philip O'Connor had the best chance when his bicycle kick attempt was pushed onto the cross bar by the Rovers keeper. David Brazil came on for Ramon, PJ Purcell for Stu Power, and Diarmuid Roche for Brian Lawlor but Celtic still couldn't create any openings. Both teams were called off side late on when tapping in to open goals and the score remained 1-0 to Shamrock Rovers.

This was a very good outing for the lads as they came away from Rathangan with a morale boosting 6-2 win. The conditions suited good football and the big open pitch allowed Celtic to play an attractive passing game. Things looked good from the start and from quick throw outs from Mark Lacey, Celtic were always putting the opposition under pressure. It didn't take long for them to open the scoring when Gunther drove through the middle and shot from outside the box which bounced over the diving keeper. After half an hour when Marin O'Sullivan broke into the box, he was took down for a penalty which Jason Cashin slotted home after being made to re-take it. Right before the half time whistle it was three nill when Philip O'Connor scored with a superb volley from the corner of the penalty box which went over the keepers head. Manager John Ryan made a change at half time bringing on PJ Purcell for Anthony Feeney but it was Fastnet who started the brighter and scored with a cross which looped into the far corner. However Celtic stepped up their game and soon scored with Philip O'Connor getting his second of the game. Confusion in the home team defence then let Michael Cullen in to round the keeper and finish off for Celtic's fifth. Celtic didn't give up and soon made it 6-1 when a long range effort from Stu Power left the keeper stranded and hit the back of the net. Fastnet did get a consolation when slack marking let their winger in to finish a shot to the net. Hopefully Celtic can carry this form into their next few games.

After only 2 tough training sessions this year so far celtic had an away friendly to a very well drilled crystal team who won the fai junior cup in 2007.Crsytal should have had the upper hand having the game at home and being at least a month into pre season but fitness didnt really come into play only for the last 10 minutes for celtic.1 of the new players in the panel got the only goal of the game in james kehoe. On his senior debut he made a name for himself by never giving up and will be a great addition for the panel being only 18 along with dylan murphy and shane kinsella. The celtic defence really had everything under control for most of the day with bryan, johnny, mikey playing centre half due to injuries and fee clearing the line throughout leaving aaron to just collect the odd cross.A great result in the end and a great stepping stone to move onto the next few friendlies against ferrybank and villa fc,both are away ties.
