  CODE OF RESPECT . . . .

The following is a code of respect for Players, Coaches, Managers, and Committee members.

 

PLAYERS
On and off the field, players will:

  • Adhere to the Laws of the Game
  • Display and promote high standards of behaviour
  • Promote fair play and behave within the spirit of the Laws of the Game
  • Always respect the match officials' decisions
  • Never engage in public criticism of the match officials
  • Never engage in offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour
  • Avoid bullying, intimidation and poor behaviour
  • Speak to team-mates, the opposition, coach and manager with respect
  • Ask the team captain to talk to the referee if I have a problem relating to the game
  • Remember we all make mistakes
  • Shake hands with the opposing team and the match officials at the end of every game

Breaches of the code may result in action being taken by the Club Committee where a player may be:

  • Required to apologise to team-mates, the other team, Referee or Officials, or opposing Team Manager
  • Receive a verbal warning from the Coach
  • Receive a written warning from the Club Committee
  • Be required to attend an FAI Coaching Course or Referee Course
  • Be dropped or substituted
  • Be suspended from training
  • Not selected for the team
  • Be required to serve a suspension
  • Be fined
  • Be required to leave the Club
  • Be subject to Wexford & District League fines and/or suspension

 

MANAGERS AND COACHES
Managers and Coaches must:

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally within the context of the sport
  • Place the well-being and safety of each player, including the development of performance, above all other considerations
  • Adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing bodies
  • Develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect
  • Not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward
  • Encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance
  • Ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players
  • Should, at the outset, clarify with the players (and, where appropriate, parent) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach
  • Co-operate fully with other specialists (e.g. other Managers/Coaches, officials, sports scientists, doctors, physiotherapists) in the best interests of the player
  • Always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the Laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the Game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance
  • Not use, condone or tolerate inappropriate language or behaviour

Breaches of the code may result in action being taken by the Club Committee where a Manager or Coach may be:

  • Required to apologise to Referee or Officials, or opposing Team Manager or Player
  • Receive a written warning from the Club Committee

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Committee Members must

  • Act in the best interests of the Club
  • Adhere to all guidelines laid down by Club and governing bodies
  • Not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward
  • Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance
  • Not use, condone or tolerate inappropriate language or behaviour
  • Attend Club Meetings when called
  • Actively participate in the running of the Club
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of Club Members and treat each equally within the context of the sport

Breaches of the code may result in action being taken by the Club Committee where a Manager or Coach may be:

  • Required to apologise to Referee or Officials, or opposing Team Manager or Player
  • Receive a written warning from the Club Committee
  • Be required to serve a suspension from Club or Committee
  • Be required to leave the Club
  • Be subject to Wexford & District League fines and/or suspension
